Apple finally joined PCs in adopting USB-C. MacBooks and MacBook Airs went USB-C just a few years ago and the iPad Pros soon did, too. Apple makes it a bit challenging for us who own MacBook Airs and iPad Pros—just one connector and it is USB-C. Once crucial reason to get a hub is for those of us with just one port on our devices to be able to charge and still connect to other devices with the second Type-C connector.FOUR USB-C ETHERNET HUBS TESTED: ALL THE SAME?I have compared the Purefix, Victsing, Juice Systems and Accele hubs yet already had a boatload of Type-C hubs for various devices. But all four these also has an Ethernet port, a rarity. With everything wireless these days, you may ask, “Why bother with old fashioned Ethernet?” For serious gamers and bandwidth power users, it’s the least trouble prone connection possible. Can’t take a chance when competing live. This is all a bigger challenge recently as everyone is stuck at home due to Covid-19. Incredible strain on available bandwidth everywhere.ACEELE:The Aceele is the only hub that accepts an SD card. It is well built and the heaviest of the hubs tested. I recommend it, especially if you need to transfer image files from an SD card.VICTSING:The Victsing is among the most solidly built. It is beautifully integrated into the Apple ecosystem in space grey color. It has all the jacks you could ever ask for except and SD card slot.PUREFIX:The Purefix is similar to the Victsing in capabilities. Along with the Victsing, it is impressively built and a real beauty in Apple friendly space grey. It’s a bit taller than the Victsing but not as wide. No SD card slot but otherwise near perfect.JUICED SYSTEMS:This is by far the most expensive hub tested, yet its capabilities are in line with what Purefix and Victsing offer, too. It has a nifty USB-C ribbon cable that slides into a groove at the top of the hub. It works well yet is pricey.CONCLUSIONS:This type of hub won’t stop a frustrating bottleneck, but it’s great to know you have the option of the fastest possible connection. All have versatile features like HDMI and of course the ability to accommodate older USB-A jacks, too. Each can handle USB-C battery charging at fastest “Power Delivery” speed for Apple devices. Many hubs cannot do this so shop carefullyBy the way fellow Apple fans, expect lightning connectors to soon be a thing of the past, too.
